Guidelines For Application For The 2014 Yamada Research Grant
The Yamada Bee Company Inc. and the Institute for Bee Products & Health Science are seeking grant applications for creative research on preventive medicine from research investigators.
In order to protect individual health, the Institute for Bee Products & Health Science has been conducting research on bee products and natural products from the perspective of preventive medicine. The “Yamada Research Grant” was established in 2008 to promote studies on natural products and/or preventive medicine. We welcome applications from not only the specific field of natural products and/or preventive medicine, but also interdisciplinary fields.
T.General Research Program
Research topics must be related to natural materials including honeybee products such as royal jelly, propolis, honey, bee larvae, bee pollen, etc. Any original and new research subjects are welcome provided they are related to health science and preventive medicine.
There are two types of grants in this program: “New Research Grant” and “Continuing Research Grant”, as described below.
For researchers or beekeepers who have never received a research grant from the Yamada Research Grant, the following list shows the subjects of application. Please select a theme from the list.
For researchers or co-researchers who have previously received a research grant from the Yamada Research Grant.
U.Specified Research Program
Research topics must be focused on clinical trials using 1) royal jelly or 2) propolis in this program as described below.
Upon application approved by the Review Committee, research will be supported through the grant. The Program Board has a right to increase or decrease the requested amount of the approved grants.
Up to 30,000,000 Japanese Yen per theme.
Two years – three years (October 1st , 2014 –).
An annual progress report must be submitted and continued funding will be reconsidered annually.
No age restriction.
English or Japanese.
If the grant recipients request royal jelly, propolis, honey, bee larvae, bee pollen and/or the ingredient of health foods as test samples, these items are provided without charge. Please indicate the desired product and amount in the application form. Details of supplies will be decided by mutual consultation after notification of acceptance of the grant application. Applications are accepted from May 1st, 2014 until exactly 17:00, Japan time, May 29th, 2014.
Applications will be examined by the Review Committee comprising experts from industry and academia. “New Research Grant” applications will be screened by the Review Committee. Funding will require approval of the Program Board of the Yamada Bee Company, Inc. It is anticipated that the applications will be reviewed and approved for funding by the end of August, 2014.The applicants will receive a notice by e-mail by early September, 2014.
The successfully screened applicant must then be approved by the Ethics Committee of the organization to which the researcher belongs or the facility where the trial will be conducted.
The successfully screened applicant must submit an agreement concerning the granted research. For the agreement details, please refer to the website of the Institute for Bee Products & Health Science.
The names of successful applicants will be announced on the “Yamada Research Grant” website. (Please note: inquiries concerning the reasons of the determination will not be answered.)
The research grant funding will be provided to the successful applicants no later than December 31, 2014.
Regarding the grant research, the private information acquired by the Yamada Bee Company, Inc. and the Institute for Bee Products & Health Science will be limited to accepting the application, making the selection, notifying the outcomes, and providing the grant. As for inquiries regarding private information protection, please contact the Program Board.
The Institute for Bee Products & Health Science shall be entitled to disclose the name of the grant recipient and/or the granted institute, and the study outcome results of those works under the grant.
Applicants requesting to disclose, correct, and/or withdraw permission for the usage of the private information concerning the granted research, the Institute for Bee Products & Health Science shall address such request in an adequate and prompt manner. (Note: Only the original applicant’s request will be honored.)
After the completion of the research period, the grant recipient will submit required documents to the Yamada Bee Company, Inc. as follows:
These documents will be completed using the format provided by the Institute for Bee Products & Health Science. The submission deadline is October 20th, 2015.
The researcher must make a presentation of the funded study results either by oral presentation or by poster presentation at the workshop sponsored by the Yamada Bee Company, Inc.
The required outcome presentation shall describe within the presentation that the research was supported by the “Yamada Research Grant”. When publishing the dissertation or in other publications, the researcher shall reference that “This research was supported (in part) by the Yamada Research Grant” in the acknowledgement.
The researcher shall inform the Yamada Bee Company of any public acknowledgement of the grant before such a presentation.
It is the responsibility of the grant recipient to fully understand and comply with the requirements of the grant. Failure to comply with the grant requirements could result in withdraw of the grant funds and/or a request for return of the full amount or a part of the grant funds. Failures to comply include but are not limited to: submitting no reports by the scheduled deadline; finding a significant difference between the research details and what was presented; reporting the results represented before the grant began.
