Environmental preventive medicine research on epidemiological studies and early detection and preventive measures of recently increasing diseases such as dementia and pediatric diseases
※ This research is conducted in the donation research division.
It has been said that 21st century is the era of “Preventive medicine”. For many sicknesses and diseases to occur, there are genetic and environmental factors in the background. Genetic background cannot be improved easily, but it is not impossible to improve environmental factors. Therefore, if environmental negative factors could be reduced, it would be possible to improve his/her health in later life. The “Environmental Preventive Medicine (EPM)” in which adverse health effects could be prevented by improving the surrounding environment has been attracting worldwide attention. EPM involves the life course measurements from fetal period through infant until adult and aging period.
The objective of this division is, therefore, to discuss about the possible preventive measures toward national health concerns such as children’s allergies, obesity, neurodevelopmental disorders and dementia of aging group, then contribute to the society by approaching these issues with the research on EPM.
